We are looking for Product Engineer - Energy Storage Systems (ESS) (all genders) for our team!

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Completed engineering degree in the field of electrochemical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent (Master’s degree)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience preferred
  • Battery system and/or grid application/PV industry experience preferred
  • Familiar with battery system development through battery validation, mechanical design, thermal management, and also BMS, EMS, PCS
  • Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including experience leading a triage team

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic understanding of program management, quality, and manufacturing operations
  • Ability to identify customer needs and translate them into a successful business proposal
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Must be a creative thinker who will take full accountability
  • Must be a team player who thrives in a start-up culture with minimal or developing policies and procedures, and is comfortable sharing opinions with all levels of management
  • Must be outwardly enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Excellent English language skills, fluent German is a plus

Responsibilities:

JOB PURPOSE:

Product Engineer for Energy Storage Systems is a critical contributor to the technical series support of current and upcoming projects. The Product Engineer will work in a global cross functional matrix organization consisting of systems, hardware, software, mechanical, validation etc. for energy storage system deployment. This includes coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to sustain battery products according to plan and expectation of the customer. The Product Engineer will also execute the project’s technical objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle. The focus for this position lies on battery based energy storage system solutions ranging from residential battery systems for PV installations up until multi modular HV container solutions for grid stabilization and industrial applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the primary technical interface between customers and A123’s internal multi-functional engineering and quality teams
  • Responsible for technical series development & support in all areas throughout the product life cycle
  • Coordinate and report on issues that arise during the lifecycle
  • Maintain scheduled engineering deliveries, updates, and bug fixes with support from the global engineering team
  • Organize regular cross-departmental meetings, including preparation and follow-up
  • Coordinate mitigation and improvement actions with internal development departments
  • Support new product development with product specification, coordination of cell/module/package development, evaluation of life cycle behavior, and collaboration to continuously improve products
  • Support the acquisition of new projects by maintaining a strong relationship with customers and maintaining their confidence in A123 products
