Division: Application & Consulting Services
Manager: Leanne Stouse
Location: Regina, SK
The Applications Consultant is responsible for the support and minor enhancements of a legacy mainframe application supported by a team of 2-3 people. Working under the direction of a senior consultant who created the system over 30 years ago, this position will cross-train and become the main support person within 6-9 months. At that time, this position will become solely responsible for support and development of the legacy application and be responsible to train the next generation. This position requires standby for a 2-week period every 4 weeks, and will be expected to join the rotation within three (3) months.
This position will have the knowledge and experience to act as a senior developer on the ITD-SWIN team, designing and developing Natural applications on Adabas backend databases. The successful applicant must have experience with Natural/Adabas, Cobol, JCL, Telon, SQL, ISPF, TSO, CA7, MoveIT automations, FTP file transfers, Appgate SDP, and CyberARK.
The Applications Consultant coordinates and administers the planning, budgeting, organizing, development, control and implementation of assigned projects and acts as a consultant to other technical staff. The position is responsible for all aspects of highly complex assigned projects and applications, including business analysis undertaken with customers. Work is usually performed without direction but is guided by project goals. The position is expected to exhibit original approaches to solve complex and often specialized system development problems. Novel approaches are studied before acceptance, although normally considerable latitude would be given in solving problems.
The position is responsible for training and supervision of less experienced staff and for effective leadership of project teams and/or a recognized expert in one or more I.T. disciplines. There would be a clear understanding of customer requirements, with the position designing and implementing programs to meet customer needs. The position deals with customer and ISM management.
