Description:

It is anticipated that the successful applicant would either be recently qualified or be on the forensic psychologist training route (or other psychologist training route if appropriate), and it is desirable that the successful applicant would already have some experience and progress on the route. Job outline: To complete a programme of professional training and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) within an agreed timescale (proposed to be four years) The post holder will work independently, (trainee psychologists will be supervised by a registered practitioner psychologist for the duration of training) and will be required to work within the policies of the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust, the overall framework of the departments policies and procedures and the code of conduct and professional guidelines laid down by the HCPC / BPS. Scope and Authority The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive psychology service to culturally diverse patients across the relevant services. The post holder will undertake research and audit activities.
They may also provide supervision, teaching and training to other healthcare staff. Key result areas To carry out specialist psychological assessments, in order to reach a psychological formulation of the service user’s difficulties. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of client’s mental health problems, and to practice within the context of evidence-based approaches. To provide specialist assessments with clients presenting with particular difficulties, for example cognitive impairment, and to be able to adjust psychological interventions to work effectively with people presenting with complex needs.
To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to service users’ formulations, diagnoses and treatment plans. To undertake risk assessment, formulation and management for individual service users and to provide advice to other professionals on this. Person Specification: Must have a good honours degree (2:1 or above) in Psychology and a BPS recognised master’s degree in the relevant area of psychology. If not already a registered psychologist, must be enrolled or ready to enrol on a recognised course of study leading to professional registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC.
Must have experience of working in a relevant mental health setting and experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Must have experience of the use of psychometric tests. Must demonstrate support for the values and beliefs of the Care Group and those of the Trust. Must demonstrate an understanding of the practices of Human Rights in the delivery of this role.
