JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
A Solar Electrician specializes in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential and commercial properties. Their duties include installing solar panels, connecting electrical components, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and integrating systems with existing electrical infrastructure. Apprentices work under a journeyperson electrician to learn and gain experience in the trade.
DUTIES:
- Installing, testing, and maintaining solar PV systems on residential and commercial buildings
- Pulling and managing cable for solar panel connections and inverters
- Laying conduit in walls, rooftops, and underground for electrical wiring
- Ensuring that solar electrical systems comply with local electrical codes and safety standards
- Interpreting and reading blueprints, electrical drawings, and solar PV system schematics
- Mounting and securing solar panels on rooftops and ground-mounted systems
- Connecting inverters, batteries, and other system components to ensure proper operation
- Performing troubleshooting and repairs on solar PV systems
- Loading and unloading construction materials, moving them to work areas
- Installing and removing scaffolding, barricades, and other related safety materials at job sites
- Removing rubbish, recycling, and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and other equipment
- Operating manual and powered hand tools relevant to solar installations
