Description:
In Diagnostic Imaging we are delighted offer a work-based learning route for individuals wishing to train as a diagnostic radiographer, whilst being in full time employment. This role provides the opportunity to remain in employment, gain valuable practical experience as well as studying for a Degree in Radiography with the University of Exeter. As an apprentice radiographer you will join a team of skilled healthcare professionals who are keen to support you to learn and develop. The radiography apprenticeship is a 3-year fixed term training contract, and providing you successfully qualify and register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) you will be appointed to a qualified Band 5 Radiographer role.
As an employee of Portsmouth Hospitals you will be contracted for full time (37.5 hours), but a minimum of 20% of your working hours will be devoted to off the job training (formal study), whilst the remainder of time will be spent on the job developing the key skills you need for the role and learning from highly experienced colleagues. You will be fully supported during your training and will have a workplace mentor, who will meet with you regularly and ensure you are making the right progress towards the qualification. You will learn to conduct and complete examinations across a range of general radiography, upon a range of patient types both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements. You will treat patients with understanding and care, respecting their privacy and dignity to provide a caring and confidential service.
The apprentice role is based at Queen Alexandra Hospital, but it is a requirement to travel to other community sites such as Gosport, Fareham and Petersfield as part of the role. Final acceptance into the Apprentice Radiographer post will be dependent on being accepted onto the degree programme by Exeter University and meeting the apprentice eligibility rules for funding. The start date for the post is February 2025, with the study programme with Exeter University beginning in March 2025. You must be able to commit to attending all 3 block study sessions per year at the University of Exeter, dates to be confirmed at interview.
