Description:

OUR FOUR TEAMS ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO PODS:

Stroke and Acute Medicine
Elderly Care and Surgery
This vacancy is within the Stroke Team.
Are you motivated to work with people to maximise their recovery and independence following a Stroke or other illnesses? Are you a team player who enjoys working with a range range of health care professionals to ensure excellent patient care and rehabilitation?
The post holder will be working with patients when they come into hospital, working with them on the wards, in the gym, therapy kitchen and at times in their homes.
Therapy Assistants work closely with occupational therapists, physiotherapists and nursing staff to help patients regain the ability to carry out everyday tasks such as walking, climbing stairs and getting dressed.
Patients may require support and encouragement to undertake these tasks, especially when they have a disability or have lost their confidence. You will need to work flexibly with a range of adults, to enable them to achieve their previous independence or adjust to a new level of function and participation. This will require clear communication skills and a proactive problem-solving approach. You will also need to be organised as you will take on a variety of administrative and departmental duties within the team.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
A Therapy Assistant’s typical working day will include helping to run exercise and activity groups, working with therapists to assist them in sessions with individual patients and carrying out activities with allocated patients e.g. supervising a patient whilst they practise putting on their shoes or do some exercises.
A large amount of the day is often timetabled around patient and ward routines, assistants will need to be able to take responsibility for their timekeeping so that the day runs smoothly.
Assistant staff will also contribute to other departmental activities which include general clerical, administrative and housekeeping jobs e.g. monitoring the stock of wheelchairs and keeping them clean, putting statistical data onto the computer, sending out and filing letters to patients.
