Description:

Are you seeking a rewarding career working with young people? Do you want to truly make a difference for the young people that live in Dorset?
We’re looking for someone looking to start a career in youth work to join our exceptional team of youth workers in North Dorset. This is a fixed term-contract for two years where you’ll be fully supported to undertake your Level 3 Apprenticeship in Youth Work, with the opportunity to apply for permanent Youth Support Worker role on a higher paygrade, once the apprenticeship is completed. We’re also supporting youth workers to access their Level 6 Degree in Youth Work too, and this could be the next step for the successful candidate in the future.
Here at Dorset Council, you won’t just be an employee – you’ll be a vital contributor to a legacy of positive change. Be a part of a community that values your skills, appreciates your passion, and recognises the difference you can make. Join us in creating a brighter future for children, young people, and families. Your journey towards meaningful work starts here.

Responsibilities:

This role will be responsible for the delivery of a targeted youth offer in the North Locality covering the towns of Blandford, Sherborne, Gillingham and Shaftesbury and the areas in between, working alongside others, and particularly focused on the most vulnerable young people.

The post holder will:

  • Undertake direct work with young people. This might include:
  • Working with young people on a one-to-one basis
  • Working with a group of young people alongside another youth worker
  • Working with young people in the community as part detached and outreach work
  • Be an advocate for young people, reflecting their views and enabling others to understand them
  • Work in partnership with other professionals such as teachers, social workers and the police to enable young people to grow and develop
  • Spend up to a day a week to undertake a Level 3 Youth Work Apprenticeship
