Description:

  • Salary Range: $79,764 - $85,074 + Attractive Superannuation
  • Contact Officer: Aloma Kasare (03) 9284 6274 Aloma.Kasare@dva.gov.au
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) exists to meet the Nation’s commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community—the men and women who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime. We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration, income support and Defence support services. Our aim is to ensure enhanced self-sufficiency, quality of life, financial wellbeing and community recognition for those we support.
VEA Compensation and Support (VCS) is a multi-disciplinary branch within DVA responsible for the management and assessment of compensation claims and the divisional focus on procedures, planning and delegate learning and development. Our clients are serving and former defence force members, veterans and legatees.
In relation to the role, Compensation Support Officers (CSOs) primarily start claims including conducting an open-door call with the client or representative to better understand what Benefits they are seeking. CSOs will review the claim and determine if any further information is needed and then request that information. CSOs will manage these claims until all the information has been returned and they can transfer the claim to a delegate to finalise.
Support Officers may also deliver a range of divisional support functions by telephone and in writing. Other tasks may include: client registrations, staff allocations, triaging enquiries, correspondence management, administrative support to a variety of compensation related programs and the assessment of Non-Liability Health Care and VEA allowances.
    Development opportunities and flexibility
This role is a perfect gateway into a career with the APS. There are growth opportunities within the role and also at higher levels once skills have been developed. Many previous successful applicants have used their performance in the role as a launching pad to a varied career both within our department and the wider APS. The role accommodates work from home arrangements, flexible time and generous leave provisions. The roles are high paced and challenging but immensely rewarding as you see in real-time, the positive impact you can have on a veteran’s well-being.

Responsibilities:

These are available within the Candidate Information Pack.
Successful applicants - The application and interview process will establish both a non-ongoing and ongoing merit pool. Initially roles will be offered as an 18-month non-ongoing position with a very real opportunity for that to become ongoing as the contract progresses. Many applicants who have started with us over the last year in a non-ongoing role are now permanent staff with the Department.
We intend to move quickly as we know organisations can draw out job application processes, but you will not be waiting long to hear from us. Your start date is projected for the end of September 2024. Within a week of this job closing, you will hear about shortlisting for an interview. Interviews will be concluded by the end of August. We value your time. If you feel you have the skills required for this position and an interest in developing a career with DVA and the APS, we encourage you to submit an application and we promise not to keep you waiting.
If you are still unsure, please refer to the candidate information pack which isn’t too long, If you still have questions after that reach out to Aloma Kasare who will be able to answer your questions. Tip: ask her about her DVA progression. Its a good story!
