    DVA provides rehabilitation services to eligible former members of the Australian Defence Force. Rehabilitation Assistance from DVA is designed to help someone adapt, manage and recover following their service related injury or disease. DVA applies a whole of person approach to Rehabilitation combining and coordinating vocational, medical management and psychosocial rehabilitation services. The Rehabilitation team within the Rehabilitation Services Section is responsible for assessing eligibility, coordinating a suitable provider, assessing and approving plans, monitoring progress and closing plans.
    The team sits within the wider Wellbeing and Rehabilitation Programs Branch and Program Delivery Division. The Division is responsible for managing and delivering a range of programs to the veteran community relating to promoting wellbeing, self-sufficiency and quality of life for veterans and their families. Staff within the Division work directly with veterans, their families and providers to ensure appropriate and contemporary supports and services are delivered. The work of the Division is dynamic, responsive, fast-paced and high-volume. Members of the Division have a passion for delivering high-quality services and working directly with the veteran and provider community.
    Rehabilitation Services Officers are required to exercise delegation to approve and monitor rehabilitation plans and liaise with clients, providers, and relevant internal stakeholders in regards to the creation and ongoing management of these plans. Specific duties may include assessing client eligibility, coordinating suitable providers, assessing, approving and monitoring plans and plan closure activities. We are seeking individuals who have experience in applying policy to make determinations, who are willing to learn, who enjoy working with a team and are committed to supporting appropriate client outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Exercise delegations under the Veterans’ Entitlement Act 1986 (VEA), Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA) and the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA) in relation to the provision of services, in accordance with policy and operational guidelines.
  • Provide advice and guidance to clients and providers in regards to services.
  • Identify high risk/complex clients and implement strategies to ensure client safety, which may include referral to appropriate management areas within the Department or establishing case conferences with internal mental health professionals and team management.
  • Monitor and manage external provider progress.
  • Liaise with internal DVA stakeholders to progress cases, provide supporting information or access additional services in the Department.
  • Participate in representational work, this may include providing presentations to transitioning Australian Defence Force members or relevant provider groups.
  • Contribute to the development of a cohesive and supportive team environment.
  • Represent the work area or agency at meetings, conferences and seminars.
  • Participate proactively in performance management processes.
  • Undertake additional duties as requested.
