ABOUT THE ROLE
The Joint Agency Operations (JAO) team is a unique and highly dynamic team within Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission’s (ACIC) Intelligence Operations Division. Responsible for enabling collaborative intelligence and investigative strategies against Australia’s most significant Transnational Serious Organised Crime (TSOC) targets, the team is at the forefront of combatting global criminal networks targeting Australia.
As TSOC networks continually seek new ways and means to exploit the globalised criminal environment, the JAO team is challenged to establish operational relationships with both traditional and non-traditional partners, domestically and internationally, and drive innovative and creative strategies to identify, track, understand, and disrupt highly sophisticated and complex targets. The JAO team operates across strategic, operational, and tactical levels of engagement, bringing the right mix of people together at the right time to achieve highly-focused and impactful outcomes.
To enable the above, JAO manages the ACIC’s offshore network. ACIC currently has international Liaison Officers (LO’s) posted to London, Washington, and Dubai and other international short-term missions (STMs). The role of the international LO is to advocate ACIC operational equities in their region by sharing criminal intelligence, brokering joint activities with partners, and intelligence exchanges. By working collaboratively with international partners, ACIC LO’s inform the agency on emerging criminal trends while working to have a disruptive impact on offshore TSOC actors harming Australia and our allies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Produce bespoke tactical and operational Criminal Intelligence products to inform Australian and international partners on evolving TSOC threats impacting Australia
- Produce criminal intelligence and advice in response to requests from Posts, internal stakeholders and international partners
- Support the ACIC’s offshore strategy relating to entities with suspected knowledge of priority transnational and serious organised crime (TSOC) activity
- Maintaining relationships with key Australian-based and international partners around transnational issues and TSOC intelligence
- Maintain awareness of regional serious and organised crime environments to identify priorities, including new and emerging threats to inform ACIC Posts and STMs and to understand the implications on Australia
- Maintain an understand of internal ACIC policy and legal developments that impact business as usual for Posts and STMs
- Supporting Posts and STMs in the production of internal reporting obligations.
