Are you ready to take your career in Aquatics to the next level? Burnaby Aquatics are looking for auxiliary Aquatic Leader 1s to join their team. This aquatic leadership work assists in directing the provision of aquatic instructional and recreational programs in our indoor and outdoor pools. The Aquatic Leader 1 supervises, checks and participates in the work of Lifeguard/Instructor Aquatics engaged in instructional, lifeguarding, minor maintenance and custodial tasks. Participates in the planning, organization and promotion of aquatic programs; evaluates and recommends changes to a variety of instructional, competitive, and recreational aquatic programs for all ages. In addition, Aquatic Leader 1s participate in program development and promotion, and prepares and maintains related records and reports. Performs other related work as required.
The ideal candidates will have completed grade 12, supplemented by courses in lifeguarding, aquatics instruction and pool operation and maintenance; plus sound related lifeguarding experience including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You have sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifeguarding CPR and first aid; working experience with pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heating and related pool equipment and operating procedures; and the ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, public and user groups. A valid BC Driver’s License, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor, Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR C) Certificates are required. Additional certifications like: Swim Instructor Trainer, National Lifeguard Instructor, First Aid Instructor, BCRPA Aquatic Fitness Leader, Pool Operator, etc. are an asset.
Pay Rate: $31.97 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
Hours of Work: This is an auxiliary position hours and shifts are dependent on operational requirements and scheduled on an as needed basis. Typical shifts are minimum four hours in length between operating hours of 5:30am – 11:00pm Monday to Sunday.
Location: Various Burnaby Aquatic Centres
