Description:

Bay Venues …. a company you may not have heard of? Not to worry, I bet you have heard of some of the venues we own or operate – the iconic Mount Hot Pools, Baywave, or Mercury Baypark to name a few. As the kaitiaki of 24 facilities in Tauranga Moana, we proudly offer a range of activities and experiences intended to put a smile on the dial of our community.
Here at Bay Venues, we are all about ensuring we create memorial moments - and we do so intentionally through connection and fun with each other, and our community. Our values of Service, Relationships, Caring and Excellence are lived on the daily as we strive to enhance the wellbeing of the people we serve. It’s no small feat, but we know that when we facilitate connections and collaborate with others, great things will happen!
If you are looking for a role that offers a fun and vibrant working environment, that breaks the mould of the typical ‘9 to 5’ grind, then lifeguarding is the career for you! You might be looking to take the next step in your aquatics career, or perhaps try something new.
There are currently opportunities within our aquatics team for part time and full time (fixed term) Shift Leader Lifeguards across the Memorial Pool from the 18th of November – 30th March.
You will be given the opportunity to complete a range of transferable qualifications, such as your advanced first aid, emergency management, water quality, chemical handling and your PLPC pool lifeguard certificate if not already obtained. And you’ll get to work with a great bunch of people who want to make a difference in the community.
Our aquatic facilities are open from early to late, seven days a week, 364 days a year so we are looking for committed team players who are flexible around their working days and hours. Duties will include interacting with customers, supervising swimmers, as well as keeping our facilities clean. You will be responsible for coordinating Lifeguards and operations on shift, to make sure the facility is running as safely and smoothly.
If you’ve got what it takes, you can continue to progress a career in the aquatic and recreation industry in other roles such as Aquatic Supervisor or move into venue management.
About you:
As a Shift Leader, you will provide the highest level of safety and customer service to the public. You will demonstrate your capability to support our Lifeguards to ensure the team deliver world class service and customer-focused outcomes. You’ll have experience in first aid, be level headed in emergency situations, have great people leadership and always be two steps ahead.
Previous experience in lifeguarding is not necessary as full training can be provided. You would need to be available to attend 2 full days of training plus hold or obtain a current first aid certificate.
Why us?

We have put together a bunch of perks to support our culture of connection and fun. Ones that reinforce that we are part of the awesome leisure and events industry, and all the magic that comes along with that. These perks include:

  • a gym membership to our ClubFit Gyms,
  • access to our five aquatic facilities including BayWave and Mount Hot Pools,
  • subsidised speedway passes and generous discounts on our programmes, services and merchandise,
  • heavily subsidised coffee at our on-site cafes, access to a range of development opportunities through our Learning & Development programme “Strive to Thrive.”

  • So why not join us? We have the right purpose to fuel meaningful careers, the right attitude to support work life balance, and the right leadership to foster an amazing culture. No matter your age and stage you may be, we are an inclusive bunch all driven by our vision of creating The Best Venues for the Bay. Come on – take the punt; you won’t regret it!
