Description:

Purpose: The Armament Technician – Lead will manage activities and personnel engaged in maintenance and repair of field artillery (M109’s, M1A2’s, breech maintenance, borescopes, Recoil exercise, 120mm mortars, M242 chain gun M2A3, and armament systems for the Army Prepositioned Stocks – 2 (APS-2) contract. As the Armament Technician – Lead, the duties under this job title are to perform field and sustainment maintenance on artillery; responsible for the direct and general support maintenance; include the CROWS, Remote Weapons Station (RWS), M777A2 Howitzer, and 60mm, 81mm, and 120mm Mortars; responsible for the Cleaning, Inspecting, Servicing, Repairing, Disposition, Evacuation and Movement of all Weapons in support of APS-2.
Managing and directing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance as required, including repair of electronic materiel, artillery, support equipment, small arms and crew served weapons. Responsible for assisting with all programs and missions involving repair and COSIS of weapons systems as configured into packaged unit sets. Responsible for combat readiness and assist with management of a Direct Support/General Support maintenance mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Determines the nature and extent of repairs required; disassembles and examines parts and assemblies for serviceability; replaces parts and assemblies as required.
  • Repairs replace and/or modify barrel assemblies, upper receivers, lower receiver, gas tubes, gas rings, feed trays, feed pawls, buffer, and their related components.
  • Determines serviceability of parts; exercises initiative to maintain productive progress and accepts responsibility for the results.
  • Safely uses common hand-tools and shop equipment effectively without assistance.
  • Diagnoses and determines remedies for failures commonly encountered in the repair of towed artillery and small arms, with little or no supervision, using a variety of diagnostic techniques and practices.
  • Instruct other employees in the proper repair maintenance procedures and capabilities of small arms and towed artillery maintenance and related TMDE.
  • Maintains discipline and enforces performance standards.
  • Performs other duties and assignments as required.
  • Maintain a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensuring times are accurate.
  • Perform borescopes, recoil and breech maintenance.
  • Must be able to supervise and train subordinates in all aspect of the field.
  • Know how to look up parts to order using the Technical Manuals for equipment.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. in order to mount and dismount weapons systems.
  • Be able to work in confined spaces such as turrets.

Qualification & Experience Requirements: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • 6 years’ experience in military small arms and heavy ordnance repair required.
  • 2 years’ leadership experience required.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all Logistic Information System (LIS) access requirements (Common Access Card).
  • Military experience preferred.
  • Formal training (Completion of US Army MOS 45K/USMC 2111 or NATO military organization equivalent course or civilian equivalent.
  • Excellent computer, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a US Passport.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience using Global Combat Support System Army (GCSS-A) preferred.
  • Experience using the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Unique Logistics Support Applications (TULSA) and Logistics Information Warehouse (LIW) preferred.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
