JOB SUMMARY
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
The Personnel Recovery Units are specialist organisations within the Army Recovery Capability. Our role it is to enable, within a conducive military environment, the swiftest return to duty of Service Personnel (SP) who are currently off work though illness or injury. Where SP can’t return to duty we support them through the medical discharge process.
Your role within this is to act as the Senior Case Manager for a number of Recovery Officers with a total case load of up to 108 recovering personnel. You will ensure their recovery needs are met and we are able to progress the recovery pathway to a successful conclusion.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Case Managers within the Unit are the key facilitators of the recovery pathway for all recovering personnel in the unit, across your area of responsibility. You will conduct and direct case-management in discussion with fellow managers and occupational clinical facilitators and social work experts. This includes participating in (and chairing where required) monthly case review conferences. This is also done through discussion with Defence Healthcare Services, Army Welfare Services and other non-military agencies that provide support to our personnel on recovery duties. You will regularly review Individual Recovery Plans, ensuring compliance with policy, to aid each soldier’s return to duty or discharge from service. As the expert on each case you will give the senior management your recovery recommendations. More broadly, you will provide advice and guidance to all internal and external parties on personnel recovery matters. In addition as the Unit SCM you will undertake individual supervision to all those in the Unit every quarter.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Assurance of recovery processes and information management
- Auditing and management of recovery documents
- Communication and education on recovery business to all partners (internal and external stakeholders)
- Coordinate with the Recovery Unit applications
- Advise the Army Recovery Capability Assignment Board of your recommendation(s) for assignment into unit
- Coordinate with other Senior Case Managers across the country and with higher formation on all recovery business
- Provide appraisal notes to the line manager of the Personnel Recovery Officers
- Conduct supervision of all Personnel Recovery Officers every quarter and in line with policy
For the Edinburgh role, there will be a requirement to travel to Northern Ireland around 4 times a year.
For the Chilwell role, there will be a requirement for travel between Chilwell and Colchester.
