Position: Art and Makerspace Technician – Full-time
Department: Art / Makerspace
Reports To: Head of Visual Arts / Head of Senior Learning Commons
Starting Date: ASAP

Salary: $24 - $26 per hour
The Art and Makerspace Technician plays a vital role in supporting the creative and innovative learning environment in the school’s art and maker-spaces. This position provides technical expertise, equipment maintenance, and hands-on assistance for students and teachers across a variety of art and makerspace projects. The technician will ensure that the space is safe, functional, and well-equipped, fostering a collaborative environment where students can engage in hands-on learning, exploration, and creativity. The role will be split into approximately 60% makerspace support and 40% 2D visual art support.

QUALIFICATIONS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Proficiency with Adobe Suite is essential.
  • A generalist maker-mindset is essential.
  • Highly competent printmaker with expertise in materials and processes used in etching, screen-printing and lino-cut.
  • Knowledge of art and design techniques, as well as materials used.
  • Well-organized and attentive to detail.
  • Dynamic and energetic individual who wishes to work in a highly focused environment with students keen to succeed.
  • Creative and conceptual and comfortable with a design thinking approach to problem solving.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • A strong ability to prioritize and self-advocate.
  • Key competencies and EQ in the following areas: self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social expertness, initiative and accountability.
  • Stays current with emerging trends, technologies, and techniques in art, design, and makerspace education.
  • BC Teaching Certificate an asset.

    Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
    Expected hours: 40 per week

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and administrative support to the visual arts and makerspace departments.
  • Assist students and faculty with using tools, materials, and equipment in both the art room and makerspace.
  • Guide students through makerspace projects involving wood, metal, plastics, and digital tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines, as well as art projects like printmaking, drawing, painting, and photography.
  • Foster a collaborative, supportive environment that encourages student experimentation and innovation.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, ensuring everything is in working order and safety protocols are followed.
  • Facilitate student art displays and exhibitions.
  • Monitor stock inventory.
  • Develop and enforce safety guidelines for using equipment, materials, and PPE.
  • Assist with coordination of annual events such as Arts Week, and liaise with outside artists/groups to identify potential classroom guest speakers throughout the year.
  • Foster community engagement within the Art and Makerspace programs.
  • Work collaboratively within dynamic, progressive departments.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized space that aligns with school policies and health regulations.
