Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Schedule: Shift 14x14 – 12-hour days/nights (Permanent)
Position Reports To: Assay Lab Supervisor
Position Overview
We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in Wet Assay and Fire Assay techniques, ideally with several years of experience in these areas. This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of instrumentation experience. Working at the onsite laboratory and reporting to the Assay Laboratory Supervisor, the Assay Instrumentation Technician’s primary responsibility is to provide timely and accurate analytical services to the Rainy River Gold Mine Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for the analysis of samples using AAS, MP-AES, and ICP-OES instruments.
Operation of LECO C&S analyzer.
Safely and efficiently perform digestion of routine mill and geological samples.
Responsible for instrument maintenance and checks.
Maintain other laboratory equipment such as autosamplers, scrubbers, hot plates and centrifuges.
Ensure that proper QA/QC steps are followed and maintained.
Accurate data entry and set up of batch runs using LIMS.
Ensure availability of wet lab supplies including standards, acids, instrument parts and glassware.
Keep a logbook for all routine equipment maintenance and daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping schedules.
Collaborate with crew members, lead hands and supervisor to ensure tasks are completed safely, timely and efficiently.
Assist in sample preparation (involves crushing and pulverizing) and fire assay prep and general laboratory tasks when required.
Execute procedures and systems to achieve results within given timeframes according to the Laboratory Service Agreement.
Provide support to the team to meet OHSE site standards - ensuring all lab work areas are safe.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree/ diploma in chemistry or related field is strongly recommended.
2+ years experience with instrumentation (ICP and AA) is required.
Thorough understanding of QA/QC procedures.
Previous experience in fire assay /sample preparation and mineral processing is an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) is required.
Familiarity with SAP & LIMS is desirable.
First aid certificate – desirable.
Work in a team environment to meet deadlines.
