AGL’s Renewables team have an exciting opportunity for an Asset Leader of our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Asset Leader will be responsible for the Torrens Island (250MW) and Broken Hill (50MW) assets, with significant growth of our battery asset fleet in the pipeline.
Reporting to the Operations Manager (BESS), the incumbent will have significant responsibility in managing the relationship with BESS O&M contractors, with operational oversight of asset performance, management and relevant assurance activities. This role has a distinct focus on upholding and ensuring a strong culture of safety and industry-leading operational performance.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing our O&M contract relationships on each site, driving a strong culture of safety and industry-leading operational performance
  • Working in a collaborative, supportive and innovative environment alongside technical specialists and subject-matter experts as we learn how best to operate this new asset class
  • Working with Engineering to develop and execute on Asset Management Plans and Maintenance Plans to achieve high performance at the right cost and at the right time
  • Collaborating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders (O&M Contractors, Renewables Engineering team, Trading and a variety of support functions)

What you’ll bring:

  • Project and resource management, with strong coordination and communication skills to balance conflicting priorities as they arise
  • Experience in a technical operational role or similar leadership role
  • Operational strategy development and assurance
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience in Renewables (Batteries, Wind, Solar) preferred but not essential – this is an emerging industry, and skills are often transferrable from similar roles

Qualifications:

  • Engineering qualification, or significant professional experience on large-scale power generation or heavy industrial.
  • Demonstrated history of safety and operational leadership
