Do you aspire to push the boundaries of Environmental Input-Output Analysis and do you have experience using MRIO databases? Do you bring innovative data approaches to creating environmental satellite accounts, disaggregation of household consumption, price deflation and/or subnational spatial information? Do you have ideas on methodological advances in footprint analysis, the contribution of gross capital formation/infrastructure or decomposition analysis to tackle new research or policy questions? Are you excited to join a collaborative, inclusive academic community and help educate and mentor the next generation of sustainability leaders? Then come join us at the forefront of Industrial Ecology research at the CML.
Be sure to check out our other two open positions that might interest you on Life Cycle Assessment and Material Flow Analysis.

Whether your strengths and interests lie in teaching, research, or a combination of both, we offer flexible opportunities that empower you to shape your career in alignment with your goals.

The years of experience and type of work post-PhD can vary. What matters most is your potential and passion for contributing to the field of Multiregional Input Output Analysis (MRIOA). We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience with Environmental input-output analysis (EIOA) methodology demonstrated through a relevant PhD thesis, postdoctoral experience, or impactful peer-reviewed publications.
  • Holds a PhD in a field related to industrial ecology, quantitative sustainability assessment, environmental or ecological economics, environmental sciences or engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • Has experience in one or more of the multiregional input-output (MRIO) databases and has a proven track record in answering relevant research questions using EIOA.
  • Has worked with one or more of the prominent multiregional input-output (MRIO) databases (EXIOBASE, WIOD, GTAP, EORA, GLORIA etc)
  • Has experience with MRIO compilation, especially environmental accounts
  • Has a good network in the EEIO academic and institutional field
  • Has published about environmental issues or environmental policy, using EIOA
  • Has experience in linking micro-data (e.g. household, company data) to EIOA
  • Is a collaborative team player with a strong ability to work across disciplines.
  • Demonstrates excellence in research, with advanced quantitative skills in data analysis and modeling.
  • Is ambitious and has a clear vision for developing and leading impactful, independent research.
  • Brings experience in teaching and supervision, and is willing to obtain a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) within two years if not already attained
  • Has experience with securing external research funding and development of collaborative projects or is motivated to do this.
  • Possesses excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Is proficient in spoken and written English and open to learning Dutch for teaching and administrative purposes
