JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Head Coach, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of the Strength & Conditioning services and support for Varsity Teams at Queen’s University.
Under the direction of the Head Coach, this position collaborates with other members of the Athletics and Recreation department to ensure the appropriate level of service and support is provided to Varsity Teams. Participating as a member of the High Performance Sport unit, the incumbent assists in creating a departmental culture that embraces and supports athletes, coaches, and teams in the pursuit of excellence.
In addition to strength and conditioning coaching duties, the incumbent will assume supporting roles in the development and implementation of education, training, special projects and/or administrative functions that support evolving sport trends, programs, and services within high performance sport, which enhance the holistic needs of student-athletes and the overall high performance environment.
Community interaction and revenue generation is a key strategic priority for Athletics and Recreation (A&R). This will require close interaction with all other units within the Athletic and Recreation department, as well as community partners, media and other related business and sport groups in the Kingston area.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum post-secondary education, preferably in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sport Administration or Sport Management. University degree preferred.
- Previous coaching experience working win a provincial and/or national high performance sport environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge/applied skills related to exercise physiology, coaching soft skills, athlete monitoring and evaluation, sport science, exercise prescription, training technology and effective teaching practices.
- Experience dealing with and developing 18-25 year old high performance athletes towards provincial, national, and international standards.
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), CPR and First Aid certification required
- Must hold membership in good standing with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or possess certification and membership from other comparable professional association
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s license required.
- Consideration may be given for the equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Knowledge of the university environment, rules, regulations, process, and administration is desirable.
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including all Microsoft programs and specific strength and conditioning software including Teambuildr.
- Competent in current best practices of sport science and athlete monitoring.
