At National Grid, our commitment to a cleaner, greener energy future is powered by the dedication and ingenuity of our people. Join our team as an Assistant Connections Engineer and be a part of something bigger—where your unique skills and passions can make a real difference. Together, we are superpowered.
National Grid is hiring Assistant Connection Engineers for our Customer Connections department in our North Region covering areas such as Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria.
As an Assistant Connections Engineer you’ll play a key part in the connections process, supporting the development of both solutions and costs for new projects as well as working with established Users to modify their existing connection solutions. You’ll be interacting with traditional User groups such as generators, large demand loads and Distribution Networks as well as those newer emerging technologies such as Hydrogen projects and large Data Centre connections.
Essential requirements of the role will also see you provide support and on occasion a lead role to resolve both customer, National Grid ESO and other key Stakeholder queries during the connection application journey to ensure that our decision-making process is fully transparent, and their expectations managed

Responsibilities:

  • With support from the Lead Connections Engineer, work in collaboration with Customer Account Managers and Power System Engineers to develop connection offers for various customer groups, generators and Distribution Networks within agreed timescales.
  • Using various design tools and systems, develop connections solutions that provide details of both scope, cost and programme timescales, whilst adhering to industry frameworks and internal governance.
  • Actively support the Customer Account Managers and regional multi-disciplinary teams during the connections process, acting as Subject Matter Expert for the offer process and ensuring that the technical, commercial and legal positions are aligned.
  • Ensure core systems used within the offer process are up to date.
  • Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through positive engagement and transparency and timeliness of issues resolution.
