Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller, Corporate, will be a key member of the Finance Team, responsible for financial reporting, analysis, internal controls and compliance, as well as providing support to the Corporate Accounting Team.
The location preference for this position is Winnipeg, Manitoba.
What You will Be Working On
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Corporate Accounting Team with the goal of building a team that drives efficiencies and actively provides support to the business units, while ensuring all reporting deadlines are met
- Assist in recruiting, mentoring, training and developing team members, as well as participating in performance management
- Review and prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting schedules, including Board of Director Reporting, in a timely and accurate manner
- Perform recognition and measurement of right-of-use asset and lease liability in accordance to IFRS 16
- Manage and review the analysis and calculation of the company’s internal borrowing rate
- Review and analyze monthly and quarterly account reconciliations which support the quarterly financial reporting process
- Assist in the planning, testing and reporting on the Company’s internal control over financial reporting (ICOFR), including recommendations for improvements and training
- Prepare interim and year-end audit working papers and liaise with the external audit team
- Review and approve government remittances (GST, RST, Withholding Tax)
- Assist in the annual preparation and submission of the T5018 and T4A-NR slips
- Responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of general ledger account structure and integrity of the financial accounting system, including system testing and upgrades
- Research and prepare analysis & guidance relating to new accounting standards (IFRS)
- Monitor and improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Other duties as required
What We Are Looking For
- CPA Designation
- Progressive accounting experience with at least 6 years in a senior level position
- Construction industry, or related industry experience, preferred
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably in the construction industry
- Strong understanding of IFRS and accounting principles
- Experience with financial reporting, analysis and internal controls
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with team members of all levels, across the organization
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting software
- Excellent organizational skills to be able to handle fluctuating workloads
- Able to work independently, as well as a team player to accomplish timely reporting requirements

- Ability to deliver results within tight deadlines
