WHAT QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

EDUCATION

  • CPA designation or currently in the CPA program and currently pursuing the designation

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience in an accounting department
  • Significant hands-on experience using accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, or Great Plains
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong functionality in other Microsoft Office Suit products
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset
  • Experience with budgeting software is an asset
  • Experience with 3rd party software such as membership software is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • A Police Record check, not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
  • Annually, staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing backup support to most positions in the accounting department.
  • Overseeing accounts payable.
  • Assisting with treasury activities.
  • Preparing detailed journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assisting with budget and forecast preparation.
  • Performing month-end closing procedures.
  • Responding to audit requests during all audits.
  • Preparing financial statements and other reports as required.
