Position Summary / Primary Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Corporate Controller, this position will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of our company, documenting and overseeing accounting processes, creating and analyzing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of contract and construction accounting principles and practices, along with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills. This is a full-time, in office position.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Corporate Controller in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and financial reporting.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements and assisting with year-end audits.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance, highlighting areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Supervise both on-site and remote (contract) accounting staff and provide guidance and support as needed, fostering a culture of teamwork and professional development.
  • Develop, document and maintain internal processes and procedures, providing periodic training and SOP documentation to remote (contract) team.
  • Develop and maintain financial models and forecasts to support strategic decision-making, business planning and budgeting.
  • Monitor cash flow and working capital, identifying potential risks and implementing appropriate controls to mitigate them.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts, working closely with department heads to gather input and validate assumptions.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in contract and construction accounting, recommending process improvements and system enhancements as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience); CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in contract and/or construction accounting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and familiarity with contract and construction industry accounting standards (percentage of completion method and completed contract method).
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent; experience with QuickBooks Online and Dash project software is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to create complex financial models and perform data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven leadership abilities and a track record of successfully managing and developing accounting staff.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
