Assistant Controller

We are in search of an Assistant Controller to join our team in the Construction/Service industry, located in Baltimore, Maryland. This role will involve the management of various accounting operational functions, overseeing a team of accountants, and contributing to the decision-making process of the organization.

• Assist in rebuilding and retooling a highly functional accounting department
• Provide strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to coordinate with other departments
• Oversee a team of senior and staff accountants, fostering a collaborative environment
• Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results
• Assist in coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements for reporting to the management
• Contribute to the annual budgeting process across all departments and locations
• Coordinate deliverables to external auditors for the annual Group audit
• Provide management with vital information for the decision-making process and perform ad hoc analysis requests as needed by management
• Assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement and implement new processes and controls
• Understand accounting and internal control systems to provide insights and recommendations for improvements
• Work in a matrix reporting environment with reporting to local management and corporate accounting team
• Assist in the development of standard operating accounting procedures throughout the organization
• Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, and understand the data flow of information from the operations to the subledger system to the final reconciliations and reporting
• Oversee and assist with regulatory or tax requirements as needed.

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems
• Familiarity with ADP - Financial Services
• Experience with ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning systems
• Capable of handling various accounting functions
• Experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• Knowledge of auditing practices and principles
• Familiarity with budget processes
• Proficiency in Sage Intacct software
• Experience with Month End Close procedures
• Demonstrated ability in streamlining accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.
