Assistant Controller

We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team in the Financial Services industry, located in Markham. In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks including managing the IFRS financial reporting process. This role also involves corporate and sales tax work as well.

• This role will manage the IFRS Financial Reporting responsibilities.
• Will provide leadership to a team of accountants and analysts by coaching and creating opportunities for personal development.
• Responsible for accurate accounting and Financial Reporting to Parent Company in accordance with IFRS for Insurance and brokerage division as well as subsidiaries.
• Ensure that the monthly accounting cycle and corporate reporting deadlines are met.
• Streamlining processes, ensuring efficient workflow and re-designing processes to achieve shorter reporting cycles.
• Ensure that internal controls are designed efficiently and effectively.
• Responsible for ensuring that all taxes (income and indirect taxes) for division and its subsidiaries are prepared and filed accurately.
• Provide support on special projects and assignments.
• Designated CPA with 7 to 10 years of experience.
• Possess solid understanding of IFRS accounting requirements and Canadian taxes.
• Proven experience in a similar role within the mutual fund industry
• Strong leadership and supervisory/management experience.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
• Insurance MGA and/or general insurance industry finance experience is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
