Description:
For over 125 years, Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens has been providing quality social services to the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens and currently offers 160-plus programs and services for children, youth, adults, seniors, and those struggling with mental illness.
Older Adult Centers promote an active life for seniors. The centers aim to assist them to preserve their independence and health by offering various range of activities and services such as serving breakfast, lunch, health screenings, social services, educational workshops, class exercises, discussion groups, games, art classes, lectures, workshops, organized outings, and special events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalency preferred but not required.
- Valid Food Handler’s Protection Certificate.
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
- Able to prepare nutritious and appealing meals.
- Able to operate independently in the Cook’s absence.
- Able to travel to multiple locations within the five boroughs as needed.
- Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare meals under the guidance of the Cook.
- Clean and maintain kitchen area and related equipment.
- Maintain sanitary and safety procedures in kitchen and dining areas.
- Serve food and ensure proper portion control in accordance to USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the New York City Food Standards and DFTA guidelines to seniors adhering to NYC DOHMH regulations for food service establishments.
- In the absence of the Cook, assume responsibility in oversee and maintain the food related areas and equipment in accordance to according to NYC DOHMH Article 81.
- Oversee safe handling and temperature control of prepared foods.
- Receive, date and store all food items.
- Inspect all food deliveries for freshness and correct amount ordered.
- Develop meals recipes and introduce to seniors, work on nutritional brochures with cooking recipes, conduct culinary classes
