Description:
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, criminal law procedures, rules of evidence and case law
- Knowledge and understanding of the role and function of a prosecutor in the criminal justice system in Ontario
- Proven judgment and analytical ability to determine appropriate legal remedies
- Demonstrated interpersonal, presentation and communication skills and proven ability to work with Indigenous communities
- Ability to use computer technology and its related software
- Ability and willingness to travel to various locations within the North Region and or Province to provide training and/or prosecute cases which include but not limited to Hornepayne and Cochrane
Responsibilities:
- Screening and preparing cases
- Performing case management functions, and conducting prosecutions for criminal and quasi-criminal offences in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice
- Providing professional advice to police and related agencies on criminal matters
- Drafting indictments
- Assisting senior counsel with prosecutions and research
- Working cooperatively with other justice sector partners
- Occasional travel (land or air) may be required to various locations within the Province
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
- Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario
- Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s license
