About the Team The Marketing and Communication Unit (MCU) takes the lead in developing strategies and relationships to build the UTS brand in order to achieve its desired prominence in the marketplace. It is responsible for effectively promoting and enhancing the image and reputation of the university through the development and implementation of marketing plans, media, audience engagement and public relations activities, internal communication and corporate identity strategy. MCU has both internal and external clients and delivers services to support them and to promote the overall strategic development of the university. The Marketing and Communication Unit comprises three areas: Strategic Marketing and Student Recruitment; Strategic Communication; and Brand Strategy and Engagement. This role is based within the Brand Strategy and Engagement team. This team collaborates with university stakeholders to manage and evolve the UTS brand, lead product and marketplace research, measure and improve audience experience and deliver best-practice digital-age experiential engagement About the Role UTS Gallery & Art Collection cares for and situates contemporary art in order to produce and hold knowledge, build shared understanding and make space for experimentation. We welcome diverse audiences to engage with contemporary art through curated public exhibitions and programs, learning resources, and publishing. The Assistant Curator contributes to the production, research and delivery of exhibitions and related public programs for the UTS Gallery & Art Collection. The Assistant Curator supports the Curator and Manager in developing and promoting the capacities of UTS Gallery & Art Collection to enhance the public image and cultural profile of UTS, in service of the UTS Strategic Plan. If successful in applying for this role, you will be responsible for: • Contributing to the planning, development, implementation and review of an annual exhibition program in accordance with the UTS Gallery & Art Collection Strategic Plan.• Working as part of a small collaborative team to undertake in-depth research on contemporary artists, art practices, and discourse to inform the development of innovative and accessible exhibitions, publications, and programs.• Developing, preparing and delivering research publications, exhibition related material, access and learning guides, promotional, and operational materials for hard copy and electronic dissemination. • Communicating with the public, staff, students, media and industry to facilitate engagement with and build awareness of UTS Gallery & Art Collection programs.• Planning and supervision of exhibition installation, and maintenance and invigilation of exhibition spaces.• Administration of gallery budgets, schedules, payments, records, correspondence and statistics to ensure all necessary requirements and approvals are met.• Preparing and submitting internal and external funding applications and sponsorship proposals to ensure the sustainability of UTS Art Gallery & Art Collection programs.• Developing and maintaining effective two-way relationships within the university and externally at all levels of stakeholder involvement. Relevant tertiary qualifications in fine or visual arts and/or museum studies or equivalent professional experience, coupled with curatorial experience in the arts sector, art gallery or art museum sector for a minimum of two years. 2. Discuss a recent exhibition or program of contemporary visual art that you have curated and describe how you determined the focus area and the selection of artists. Provide details on how you worked to ensure deadlines were met and resources were not exceeded.3. Outline your suitability for and interest in this position. You should consider what you can bring to the role that sets you apart from other candidates. This could include special interest areas relevant to the role, previous experience in the visual arts, or specialized skills. Remuneration & Benefits Base Salary Range: $92,851 to $100,534 pa (HEW 6) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities. This position is part time (0.6 FTE, 3 days per week) and appointment will be made on a continuing basis. The candidate should be open to flexible working arrangements, including occasional weekend or evening hours, as needed. This role will be performed in a job share arrangement.
