Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Dean provides administrative support for the vision and direction of the College of Arts & Sciences in concert with the University’s mission. Working collaboratively with the Dean, the Assistant Dean provides academic leadership, faculty and staff support, and program advocacy for the College. The Assistant Dean contributes to a working environment that is conducive to effective teaching and learning for all faculty and students in the College.
- Monitors course scheduling, course enrollments, and faculty assignments.
- Solicits and prepares reports for planning purposes.
- Manages budget preparation, daily fiscal administration, and budget analysis.
- Oversees requests for and maintenance of required records, including faculty credentialing and master syllabi.
- Acts as College Assessment Coordinator.
- Coordinates the Multidisciplinary Studies (MDS) Major.
- Serves as member of Symposium Against Indifference Committee and as the AU Official for Animal Care and Use.
- Administers articulation agreements with community colleges and career centers.
- Updates documents and policies representing CAS (catalog, orientation guidebook, Chair Handbook, Adjunct Handbook).
- Directly supervises one administrative assistant and serves on search committees for other administrative assistants and staff positions, as well as assists in onboarding and training them.
- Assists in training new department chairs.
- Other duties as needed or requested.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Terminal degree in a discipline associated with the College of Arts and Sciences
- Five (5) or more years in higher education
- Evidence of administrative experience that includes fiscal and/or statistical oversight
- A record of excellence in teaching, scholarship or artistic achievement, and service
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel.
