Description:
The Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism is seeking an experienced advisor to join the team as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Advising (Student Programs Advisor III). The USC Annenberg School is host to 1,500 intellectually curious, and dynamic students pursuing degrees in Communication, Journalism and Public Relations and Advertising.
Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Academic Advisement & Civic Engagement, this role will supervise graduate interns, provide mandatory academic advisement to a caseload of 250 undergraduate students and will take on a leadership role in departmental initiatives and programs including managing all aspects of the mandatory advisement process.
Ideal candidates for this position will have a passion for working with undergraduate students as well as demonstrated experience and success in supporting students in their academic journeys and collaborating with campus colleagues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 years of experience in academic advisement or other student facing support function.
- Ability to work independently, and as a part of a team, exhibiting strategic thinking, sound judgment, strong oral and professional skills, initiative, and flexibility.
- Master’s degree preferred in counseling or higher education administration
Responsibilities:
- Provide mandatory academic advisement for a caseload of 250 undergraduate students enrolled within the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism.
- Provide department leadership on all aspects of the mandatory advisement process collaborating closely with the advising team.
- Collaborate with undergraduate program faculty leads in the School of Communication and School of Journalism to development enrollment management strategies, and retention initiatives that support student success.
- Supervise up to two graduate interns.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the robust University support services available to USC students and make student referrals as appropriate.
- Drive team operational strategies and execution of services for each student population.
- Maintain a leadership role on departmental and university committees to stay well-informed on issues impacting student services and to ensure that programs are well-represented.
