Master’s/Doctorate in a relevant field with at least 4 years of progressive research operational experience Required

Responsibilities: Job Summary
The Assistant Director, of Clinical Research Operations oversees the research coordination aspects of clinical operations supporting the clinical research enterprise at HRI including clinical research coordination, research data coordination, and specimen management coordination. The Assistant Director helps the Director lead operational management for effective and efficient clinical research support operations across HRI. This oversight includes adequate resourcing, training, and support for the critical early drug development program (Phase I) in addition to the phase II and III of clinical studies conducted within the HonorHealth system. This role will provide consultation and support to key evaluation components of HonorHealth Research Institute’s programs and distribute research findings to healthcare staff and HRI leadership. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in developing and maintaining relationships between the organization and clinical departments as well as relevant business partners. Responsibilities will include providing high-level management clinical support operations. The Assistant Director is accountable for efficient process development, management, research integration, and effective recruitment of personnel, developing, and maintaining appropriate key performance indicators (KPIs), staff acuity modeling for program support that meets the organization’s strategic initiatives. The Assistant Director will work closely with physician-scientists, administrators, clinicians, and researchers to understand their goals and provide recommendations and support services for the advancement of the clinical research operations, ensuring its integrity at every point while adjudicating complex issues pertaining to integrations with other shared support cores at HRI. Other general support includes close coordination with service lines, organization, implementation, and participation in HRI-related leadership and scientific meetings and events.

The incumbent will require the effective utilization of interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with senior administrative staff in multiple settings, divisions, and sites to foster collaborative research activities by providing research and methodological support for personnel. Serves as tactical point person as it relates to the coordination of clinical trials within the context of patient care, staff development, physician relationships, quality initiatives, program development, and system-wide success. Assures evidence-based training and standards by creating an environment that encourages the use of standards in research practices. Other assignments will include support and participation in HRI related leadership and scientific meetings and events.

  • Operations: Oversee the clinical coordination operations in its entirety supporting the clinical research enterprise. This includes clinical trial support operations for all research divisions and research programs by working with functional role managers including the nursing supervisors, clinical practice administrator, clinical research coordination leader, research data coordination leader, regulatory coordination leader, specimen management coordination leader and their respective teams. These teams are expected to perform efficiently, effectively, and compliantly. Ensure compliance with all policies. Maintaining financial stewardship by being accountable for the financial integrity around the development and management of the department budget. Oversee all coordination activities supporting study-related clinic visits Participate in site initiation and additional sponsor visits by sponsor monitors as needed; Oversee the preparation and maintenance of patient research charts; Oversee the preparation and filing of informed consent; Oversee the preparation and filing of Serious Adverse Event (SAE) reports to both sponsors and IRB as needed; Oversee the preparation of research materials in accordance with approved protocols.   • Personnel Leadership: Oversees, implements, and ensures all staff working within the clinical coordination teams are appropriately trained on internal procedures and guidelines. Executes the full range of personnel management and training responsibilities. Oversees the staff and ensures adequate staffing levels, inclusive of hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching and developing employees ensuring employee productivity, quality of work and alignment of goals with our mission, vision and values. Leads the effort to develop workload performance indicators for comparison with benchmarking data in support of the HonorHealth Research mission. Seeks out and promotes good working relations with research and educational partners. Initiates and responds to communications regarding problematic issues. Collaborates in the analysis and problem-solving to determine the best action to be taken. Follows through to ensure timely response to external customer requests and requirements. Participates as the representative of the HonorHealth Research Institute in meetings, community committees, and professional national organizations. Collaborates with colleagues at other institutions on issues of mutual importance.
  • Promotes an environment that supports excellence in research coordination activities with a focus on quality patient experience through service by leading and directing the implementation of a coordination leadership model and collaborative practice delivery system to commit to absolute quality, clinical care, and service. Fosters collaborative partnerships with medical staff, members of the organization, and the community. Uses evidence-based knowledge in decision-making to improve and maintain high-quality, cost-effective research support. Research program expansion and Development: Works with other members of the team to develop clinical trials, grants, abstracts, posters, manuscripts and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Works with others on the relational aspect of the templates in the EMR to ensure accurate reporting of data; Responsible for utilization of research support system reports to extrapolate meaningful data from all clinical and research systems for reporting purposes; and serves as a basis for decision making.
