SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Assistant Program Director at Red Rocks Community College Police Academy plays a pivotal role in supporting the Program Director in developing, implementing, and administering training programs. This position involves coordinating various aspects of the academy’s operations to ensure compliance with Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) regulations and foster a professional learning environment for cadets. The Assistant Director will focus on creating, overseeing, and managing the weekend and evening academy, as well as assisting in the day-to-day operations. The Assistant Program Director will work collaboratively with the Program Director to ensure all necessary duties to effectively run the program are completed. The assistant program director will provide leadership and managing academy logistics in collaboration with the Program Director.
Assistant program director will assist with maintaining and updating P.O.S.T lesson plans, supporting instructional staff, and maintaining compliance with educational standards and P.O.S.T regulations. The Assistant Director will assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of training programs and curricula, coordinating class schedules, training activities, and special events, and ensuring that all training materials and resources are up-to-date and available. Additionally, the role involves maintaining records of training programs, cadet progress, and attendance, preparing reports and documentation for audits and inspections, and supervising administrative staff. Effective communication and collaboration are essential, as the role serves as a liaison between the academy, law enforcement agencies, and community partners. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in facilitating communication among staff, cadets, and external stakeholders, and assisting in community outreach programs.
The Assistant Program Director monitors and assesses the effectiveness of training programs, recommends improvements, conducts evaluations, provides feedback, and oversees performance improvement initiatives. This role also requires attending all law enforcement graduations and advisory board meetings, as well as completing service work within the school and community. Additional duties may be assigned to support overall program success.
This position requires flexibility, as a significant portion of the role will involve evening and weekend availability. When academies are not in session, the work schedule can shift to the more traditional hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or related field.
  • Peace Officers Standards and Training Certification (P.O.S.T) certification.
  • One year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in Basic Law Enforcement Training.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working as police officer.
  • Experience working with the Colorado Peace Officers Standards and Training Board.
  • Knowledge of current law enforcement practices and educational standards.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or related field.
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience in program development, budget management, and curriculum integration.
  • Proficiency in using online learning platforms and integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and supporting their success.
  • Experience working with P.O.S.T. Lesson Plans and accreditation standards.

Physical & Cognitive Demands

  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transport standard office supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • This role requires regular physical activity, as it involves tasks that are not sedentary, including on-site inspections and fieldwork.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
