Description:
Due to internal progression, we have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Assistant EHCP Officer to join our dedicated Disability Services Department.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all duties in relation to Education Health and Care (EHC) Plans are delivered to the highest standard and ensuring there is cross-college awareness of the processes involved.
They will support operational aspects of the Education Health and Care process including the chairing of annual reviews of EHC plans for college students, and supporting the transition of pupils with EHC plans into college by liaising with schools and attending review meetings where appropriate.
This is a key role in supporting the college in the implementation of the SEN Code of Practice and ensuring the college meets its legal and statutory requirements for SEND students.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
- A Relevant Level 3 Qualification
- GCSE 4 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
- GCSE 4 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test before the interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
EXPERIENCE
- Experience in supporting young people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties
- Experience in interpreting Education Health and Care plans and other evidence to inform support plans.
- Experience in liaison with a range of people including parents, carers or other stakeholders
- Experience in collating, preparing or writing reports.
- Experience in chairing meetings.

Responsibilities:
- Chairs annual review meetings of college students with EHCPs, working under the direction of the college EHCP Lead Officer;
- Ensures that meetings are effectively recorded and all updates and changes are accurately reflected in the paperwork sent to the local authority;
- Supports the processes that mean timely responses to consultations on the placement of young people with EHCPs can be made;
- Attends annual reviews of pupils in years 9 and above to support improved transition for young people with EHCPs;
- Seeks feedback and holds focus groups with students with EHCPs to continually and effectively improve our services;
- Supports the preparing for adulthood agenda by promoting an aspirational culture in terms of life after college, including further learning, vocational training, employment or independent living, in line with desired EHCP outcomes;
- Offers self-help strategies and information, referring to appropriate agencies and liaising with College staff as necessary.
- Provides training to teaching and support staff working with students with a range of additional needs.
- Maintains accurate records that support the college in all its quality assurance/audit processes and funding claims in line with institutional responsibilities and departmental expectations.
- Effectively liaises between the college and all relevant local authorities to ensure positive working relationships are maintained;
- Promotes inclusive practice across the curriculum, physical environment and service areas ensuring staff are trained and updated in current practice.
- Makes efficient use of IT and college internal systems such as E-Trackr to disseminate key information to teaching staff and curriculum managers from EHCPs;
- Effectively liaises with SEND and ALS staff to ensure information is shared appropriately;
- Contributes fully to the college self-assessment processes.
