Overview:
Transport Scotland is the national transport agency for Scotland and is accountable to Parliament and the public through Scottish Ministers, with a budget of around £3.9 billion per year. Transport is a vital feature of the Scottish Government’s focus on increasing sustainable economic growth, and transport investments and policies have major impacts on the economy, people, and the environment.
An opportunity has arisen to join the Finance and Corporate Services (FCS) Team as an Assistant Finance Manager. The Assistant Finance Manager will work closely with and report to one of the Finance Business Partners as well as providing support across the wider finance function, including the accounts payable and financial accounting team.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and strengthen a broad range of skills and competencies, whilst gaining valuable insight into the important work carried out by the agency.
Responsibilities:
- Provide financial support and advice to specific directorates within Transport Scotland to support the delivery of operational objectives and statutory responsibilities within available resources.
- Monitor the application of financial and budgetary controls, highlight improvements and report to budget managers to suggest resolutions.
- Working with budget holders across the agency to provide financial information to support Scottish Government forecasting and statutory reporting in accordance with relevant accounting guidelines and regulations.
- Provide support and advice on finance and governance related issues and specific commissions to the Finance Business Partner, other directorates and financial accounting team as required.
- Provide support to ensure that Transport Scotland applies robust financial controls and procedures, and effectively manages its financial reporting processes.
- Assist as required in the preparation and collation of the Transport Scotland Annual Report and Accounts and liaise with external audit
