    Our Organisation
The Benevolent Society’s vision is to build a just society where all Australians can live their best life. For more than 200 years we have supported people at the margins of society: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians; children, young people, and their families; older people; carers and people with disability. We are an independent, non-religious service provider which supports people to live life their way.
As part of The Benevolent Society’s vision, we are strongly committed to reconciliation with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia. We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting the economic, political, and social inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
    About the role
We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Lawyer to join the Benevolent in-house legal team. The initial focus of this role will be on redress and claims and mitigating risk in the management of disputes and litigation. In addition to handling litigation, you will have the opportunity to engage in non-litigious legal work, providing you with an opportunity to develop a varied in-house skill set within a collaborative legal team environment. It is desirable you are confident in navigating the child protection system in NSW.
    Duties

As a valued member of the Legal & Corporate Governance team, you will:

  • Use your leadership skills to support Benevolent to resolve disputes in alignment with our organisational values and in a way that upholds our organisational integrity.
  • Work closely with a network of internal and external stakeholders, including external law firms.
  • Provide timely legal advice to Benevolent on complex legal risks and issues.
  • Assist in responding to orders, notices, summonses and subpoenas served on Benevolent.
  • Be familiar with the New South Wales Court system and have child protection experience.
