ASSISTANT HEAD LIFEGUARD

The District of Summerland is seeking a skilled individual to be part of our Aquatic Leadership Team at the Summerland Aquatic & Fitness Centre. As a member of the aquatic leadership team, the full-time Assistant Head Lifeguard acts as a senior shift lifeguard to provide guidance and supervision to other staff to ensure high quality supervision, aquatic programming, and customer service is provided to our patrons. This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing the Summerland Aquatic & Fitness Centre maintenance program as well as providing aquatic staff responsibilities (lifeguarding, swim lessons, aquatic program instruction, cashiering, etc.).
The ideal candidate will be a dependable team player and leader with a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and enjoy a variety of tasks in an ever-changing work environment. If you have a strong understanding of pool operations with a Pool Operators I certificate and are knowledgeable in basic pool mechanical maintenance, pool chemistry, and equipment repair, servicing, and operation along with the required skillset and certifications to lifeguard and instruct, we want you at the District of Summerland! The current working schedule for this position is 40 hours/week. September to June shifts are Tuesday to Saturday and will include a combination of daytime and evening shifts. Summer shifts (July and August) are Monday to Friday. The opportunity to work a compressed 4-day work week may be an option. The qualified candidate will be scheduled as required to meet operational needs. This is a full-time union position (CUPE 1136), and the current wage is $31.83 per hour with a wage increase on January 1, 2025 to $32.79 per hour along with a competitive benefits package and pension.
