Your Opportunity:
An exciting leadership opportunity exists in the Turningpoint Program, Unit 3-6, at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. Turningpoint is an 18-bed inpatient forensic program providing psychiatric assessment and treatment to youth in legal standing under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Stabilization is also provided to youth experiencing an acute psychiatric disturbance. Reporting to the Unit Manager, we are currently seeking an Assistant Head Nurse who will provide leadership of the nursing program ensuring all components are aligned with the unit and zone operational plan, goals and initiatives. The role is responsible for the provision and coordination of quality patient care to the assessment and admission process and the treatment unit. Duties include planning and organizing day-to-day operations, coordination and monitoring of unit activities, supporting the supervision of nursing and support staff and assisting with recruitment. The Assistant Head Nurse also performs nursing duties on the unit and oversees patient admission and discharge planning in collaboration with the Unit Psychiatrist. This position acts as a liaison between multiple disciplines on Unit 3-6, psychiatry, and relevant internal and external stakeholders. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
