Your Opportunity:
The Patient Flow coordinator (PFC) is a centralized zone role in direct collaboration with the demand capacity services in all aspects of our health system 24/7. As an IOC PFC, you are responsible for collaborating with EMS Supervisors for promoting optimal patient flow by facilitating the effective management of patient transport and admission via EMS and with RAAPID North. Utilizing community and acute care resources, the IOC PFC will provide oversight to system flow and capacity in real time. This team will monitor capacity and flow and take steps to remediate the bottlenecks. The PFC and EMS Supervisors assign destinations based upon patient need, appropriateness, and system capacity. Reporting to the IOC Program Manager, the Assistant Head Nurse – PFC will: Work in collaboration with Physicians, Executive Administrators, Acute Care Site Managers/Flow Coordinators, Bed Management, Emergency Department Charge Nurses, Rural/UCC Site Managers, Clinicians, RAAPID, the successful applicant is responsible and accountable for providing direction, leadership, and organization around Edmonton Zone capacity management. Daily, the role is liaising with identified stakeholders to assist with input, throughput, and output of patients in the health system. The PFC actively monitors Edmonton Zone capacity and is responsible for organization and/or leading virtual zone demand capacity calls. The role is responsible for the initiation of zone escalation protocols (EZ-STEP) when significant bottlenecks in flow are identified and be a point of contact, during worked hours, for Executive Leadership on call. This is an exciting position for experienced RNs with a diverse background of clinical experience and strong leadership roles and demonstrated.

In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
