About us:
This role is in the Operations Finance Business Partnering team, which is part of the Finance, Procurement, Strategic planning and Analytics directorate. The FPSPA Directorate provides quality financial support, advice and planning in pursuit of the university’s stated academic objectives. In particular it is committed to the provision of strong financial leadership in all areas of activity undertaken by the university, to the provision of sound professional advice on all aspects of financial management, and to the achievement and maintenance of a high-quality service.
About the role:
The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the full range of management accounting work within the university. Working closely with other members of the management accounting community, the role provides useful information to faculty/directorate managers to improve their decision-making, planning and control.
We are seeking a curious, enthusiastic, and approachable Assistant Management Accountant with excellent oral and written communication skills to join our Finance Business Partnering (Operations) at King’s.
The post holder will be able to demonstrate an understanding of accounting concepts and promote the understanding of financial knowledge within directorates in their communication with non financial stakeholders. You should have experience of working with a financial accounting system and in exporting data to produce meaningful reports to meet the needs of different stakeholders. Working closely with Finance Business Partners, you will respond in a timely manner to meet our budget holder needs. This will include answering queries, performing reconciliations, staff approvals, updating the staff forecast tool, processing journals, budget and forecast movements, assisting with general month end tasks, creation of new activity codes, assisting with coding changes and restructures and the provision of management accounting information.
This is a full time (35 Hours per week) for a period of 12 months
About you: (the candidate)
Essential Criteria
- Part-qualified with a professional accountancy body
- Confident working under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (particularly Excel) and the ability to work on new systems
- Experience of working effectively in collaboration with staff from different teams
- Experience of working with an accounting package, for financial processing and/or reporting
- Methodical and detail-oriented, maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner
- Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as delivering within a team
- Curious, customer service oriented, with a commitment to personal accountability and continuous improvement
- Adaptable and flexible to organisational change, driving own professional development
Desirable Criteria
- Degree at undergraduate (BA, BSc) level or equivalent
- Knowledge of HEI funding environment
