Description:
The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a professional to join the Governance and Legal Services team. As the Assistant Manager, Governance, you will be responsible for managing and leading the governance functions of the team. The role involves working closely with the Museum’s Executive and Council, the portfolio Department, and many Business Units within the Museum.
You will be responsible for several governance functions including:
- Being the primary contact and secretariat for the Museum’s Council and its Committees
- Preparing Senate Estimates briefings, responses to Questions on Notice, correspondence for Council and other briefing material as required
- Liaising with the Office of the Arts
- Coordinating the Museum’s annual report.
You will be working in a small, busy team whose functions encompass governance, reporting, audience research, legal services and procurement. The role offers a suitable person the rare chance to be deeply engaged in the strategy and activities of the whole Museum. This is an opportunity to learn how the Museum is managed at the most senior levels.

You will have a strategic focus and demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and excellent judgement. You will also need to be proactive, have excellent organisational skills to manage and plan the work of yourselves and others. Good liaison and interpersonal skills are also vital. An in-depth understanding of relevant legislative and compliance frameworks, and the ability to provide advice on complex problems and issues, is highly desirable.
