Description:

Position title: Assistant Manager (Marine), Conservation and Science
Reports to: Conservation Programme Manager/Director Conservation and Science

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and above in environmental sciences, biology, geography or related fields preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability, conservation and related topics.
  • At least 3 years of project management experience in conservation, sustainability, natural resource management or related fields.
  • At least 1 year of field experience in marine conservation/research projects.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good people management, engagement, and networking skills.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information from various departments and stakeholders and present information in a structured and consistent way.
  • SCUBA diving certification and fluency in other Southeast Asia languages is a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead in and provide support and assistance in the identification, establishment and day-to-day management of predominantly coastal and marine field projectsin the region and Singapore.
  • Designing and implementing budgets for projects.
  • Review technical progress and financial reports from implementing project teams (overseas and in Singapore), and coordinate and attend updates with project partners. Record and distribute project updates internally.
  • Supporting in creating content for social media and other channels to communicate about projects
  • Support other teams including education, fundraising and communications work with content identification, content creation, editing and fact checking with science-based research as required.
  • Prepare reports for local and overseas projects upon completion.
  • Undertake and/or participate in research projects as/when required.
  • Represent the department in cross-programme management teams and discussions with local and regional partners as required.
  • Organise and coordinate meetings and workshops with internal staff, external colleagues and partners.
  • Represent WWF at meetings, workshops, public speaking opportunities, media engagement and working or focus groups locally and internationally as required.
  • Reach out to and maintain relationships with partners such as government agencies, NGOs, private sector stakeholders and donors as required.
  • Conduct local citizen science and/or public outreach and training e.g. guided walks, talks, data collection as required.
  • Comfortable working with volunteers and interns
  • Generate and analyse data and descriptive statistics in relation to a) work relevant to conservation activities and b) project activities.
  • Identification of funding opportunities (in collaboration with growth and partnership team colleagues) and assistance in writing funding proposals.
  • Periodic after working hours and weekend work is to be expected (time-off in lieu will be given)
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager.
  • Some overseas travel to project sites will be expected.
