ABOUT US:

People, Safety, Culture and Communications’ (PSCCs) core functions span the breadth of workplace cultural, and people matters, including human resource policy and strategy; organisational culture and change; recruitment, redeployment, and retention; performance and development; pay, benefits and workforce reporting; occupational health and safety management; and employment regulations.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will provide leadership in monitoring existing safety management systems and provide guidance and advice to develop and deliver operational safety excellence in partnership with managers, Health, and Safety Representatives (HSRs) and staff to maximise the effectiveness of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
The Assistant Manager, Safety will lead their team and work in partnership with a range of safety and wellbeing stakeholders together with business unit managers. The strategic focus of the team is upon driving improved safety outcomes, through a capability uplift and skill transfer to business unit staff to support the delivery of proactive preventative health and safety strategies, to create a safety-first department.
The role will work in metropolitan and country locations as required across a range of front-line business functions which may include Corrections Victoria, Custodial and Community Corrections, Youth Justice Custodial and Community Services, Sheriff’s Operations, Justice Services Programs across the state and a range of corporate business units in implementing safety initiatives, strategies, and programs.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Leading a team of Senior Safety Advisers to drive enhanced safety outcomes by implementing proactive, preventative health and safety strategies, fostering a safety-first culture within the department.
  • Offering leadership, subject matter expertise, and onsite support to prevent safety-related incidents and achieve operational safety excellence through collaboration and information sharing.
  • Overseeing the monitoring of safety and wellbeing programs, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
