Essential Job Functions
As a Litigation Services Managing Clerk at Kirkland, you will be responsible for providing guidance on court rules and procedures to Kirkland’s attorneys, paralegals, and staff, while performing research and analysis of applicable court rules and practices and acting as a dedicated resource for Kirkland attorneys, both in the office and throughout the firm, on calendaring, procedure, and related litigation matters.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school; a minimum of five (5) years of related litigation experience may be considered in lieu of a J.D.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing roadmaps to guide attorneys through procedural and logistical elements of complex court filings, flagging procedural nuances, and providing strategic pointers where applicable;
  • Proactively advise other attorneys at the Firm on procedural questions/rules/practice requiring advanced technical knowledge;
  • Liaise with court personnel, as needed, to troubleshoot filings and miscellaneous issues;
  • Assist with attorney admissions/renewals and drafting of pro hac applications;
  • Overseeing and performing major facets of the Managing Attorney’s Office ("MAO"), which can include reviewing court and agency filings before they are delivered or transmitted, analyzing and applying judicial court and adversary analytics, creating judicial profiles, transcript review, service of process and subpoenas, updating court rules, court and litigation forms, selecting and utilizing of attorney services companies, transmitting the filings to courts and agencies;
  • Researching and communicating new developments in litigation and court procedure, in an effort to keep all Kirkland attorneys, paralegals, and staff abreast of rule/policy changes and new developments in court procedures;
  • Electronically filing a wide range of court papers, remaining current in the nuances of electronic filing rules to ensure successful submissions; coordinating with court personnel and process servers as needed;
  • Monitor cases and create case trackers utilizing various software including, Bloomberg Law, PACER and CourtAlert;
  • Participate in continuing education, research, and networking to enhance competencies;
  • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications & Requirements
    As a Litigation Services Managing Clerk you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Litigation Services Managing Clerk must have a high degree of knowledge of applicable court rules and procedures and be able to apply court rules in multiple jurisdictions quickly, efficiently, and in a manner which instills confidence. The ideal candidate will have the ability to articulate complex court rules and calendaring issues in a comprehensible, accurate, confident, and concise manner, as well as the analytical skills needed to correctly comprehend and convey complex legal principles. The Litigation Services Managing Clerk must have well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, high-level customer service skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with appropriate discretion. The successful candidate will have proficiency with CompuLaw and/or CourtAlert, with PC applications including MS Office, and with Bloomberg, Westlaw and Lexis, and other applicable legal research software, to research complex procedural issues.
