Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an energetic and ambitious individual to join our experienced team as Assistant Underwriter.
As an entry role into the exciting world of Property & Casualty underwriting within Zurich, we’ll support and train you – with both on the job training and funded professional development. Not only that, but you’ll be learning from some of the best underwriters in the industry.
Zurich Municipal is a leading provider of insurance and risk management solutions for the public and voluntary sectors. Since 1993 we’ve insured charities, voluntary organisations, housing associations, and the education and public sectors, helping our customers better understand and reduce the risks they face. We provide insurance for organisations of all sizes across the UK, from insuring a large local authority to small community groups.
The roles are within our market facing underwriting teams and provide a structured career path into market, or trading, underwriting. They are a learning ground, providing opportunities to gain exposure to customers, their advisors and the many other professionals involved in the world of Risk Management and Insurance.
Working with our market underwriters you will be building your foundations for success – learning risk and insurance fundamentals, dealing with customer queries, producing documentation, instructing risk surveys with our surveyors amongst other things.
If you are analytically minded, are comfortable with numbers, enjoy detail and making decisions and are interested to learn more about the range of possibilities as an underwriter we’d love to hear from you.
Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ambition, willingness to learn, grow, and be part of a team.
  • Underwriting experience (within Property and Casualty) is a plus, but not required.
  • Numerate and at ease creating and manipulating data sets.
  • Ability to draw conclusions from data and create recommendations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to challenge processes and decisions.
  • Adaptability to different workloads and pressures.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
