THE OPPORTUNITY

We are currently seeking an Assistant Mines Technologist to join our Mines Technology team in Sudbury.
This is a permanent position, with Local 2020-05 union.
As an Assistant Mines Technologist, you will provide mining technologist support at Coleman Mine.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Assist in surveying and ventilation duties as directed to support the short and long-term production planning requirements.
  • Perform surveying, performs cavity surveys, prepares incentive contracts, copies and distributes prints and safety notices.
  • Perform ventilation measurements and logs underground data for analysis.
  • Perform routine ground control duties such as geotechnical data gathering.
  • Perform calibration, minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Responsible to provide service to internal or external customers in a timely way according to the specific requests and stated expectations of the customer. The quality of the service is largely guided by government legislation and by Vale mine standards.

EDUCATION:

Minimum 2 Year Community College Diploma in an appropriate mining discipline or post-secondary equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in ventilation, surveying, and ground control monitoring.

SKILLS:

Processes: General knowledge of surveying, ventilation, incentive, safety notification and ground control principles.
Equipment: Use and Maintenance of ventilation and survey equipment.
Specific Mining Computer Skills: Proficiency in the use of: DeswikCAD, and Microsoft Excel.
