THE POST IS BASED AT CUERDEN (BUT YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT LANCASHIRE).

Lancashire Highways Service is responsible for the direct delivery of all highway related schemes across the County made up of 4’300 miles of road, 151’000 street lights and 2’955 bridges.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Operations Engineer; required to support the delivery of the highways maintenance function which is often complex in nature, politically sensitive and high profile. This is an opportunity to support the maintenance and enhancement of the highway network and provide long term benefits for residents, visitors and businesses in Lancashire.
Role holders at this level will be expected to manage the human and financial resources allocated to the team. They must be able to use judgment to deal with daily unforeseen problems with limited guidance, within established procedures. Roles at this level are typically the first level of professional line management in the council. They will generally have freedom to make practical and operational decision making within closely defined policies and procedural guidance.
We are looking for someone ideally with an ONC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related field although this is not essential. Crucially, we are looking for someone with significant experience of working within the traffic or highway engineering fields, preferably with specific experience of delivering highways maintenance functions. The role also requires the supervision of small schemes and works to ensure all activities are delivered on time and within budget.
You must have a full and valid driving licence as you will be required to drive a Lancashire County Council vehicle.

In return Lancashire County Council offers a range of benefits:
