WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR…

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Lighting Technician who will be working towards qualifying as a Lighting Engineer to deliver the maintenance of street lighting across the Eastern districts of Lancashire. You will have experience working within the street lighting and highway electrical industry and will have experience of dealing with customer and stakeholder enquiries and complaints.
You will have experience with street lighting design, and familiarity with Lighting Reality PRO road lighting design software, Autocad and cable design software. You will have experience of providing design briefs, specifications, and bills of quantities for section 38 and section 278 highway projects. You will have a working knowledge of current British Standards and codes of practice relating to Highway Lighting and experience of managing projects from inception to completion, delivering within budget and meeting KPIs.
For the right candidate the post holder will be expected to undertake continued training and be eligible to apply to the post of Lighting Engineer (£38,223 - £43,421 Grade 9) within two to four years.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of lighting and electrical design.
  • Degree / HND / HNC /ONC in a related field i.e., Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
  • Completion or working towards completion of full ILP - Exterior Lighting Diploma.
  • G39 Electrical Safety training.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
  • Interpretation of ILP’s GN22 (Minor Structures - ATOMS) raw data.
  • Preparation and analysis of detailed technical reports.
  • Road lighting standards and legislation.
  • Lighting Reality PRO road lighting design software.
  • Trimble SingleCable, Castline, CableCalc or similar cable sizing software.
  • Project management tools i.e., Gannt Charts.
  • CDM Regulations.
  • Creation of design briefs, equipment specifications, and schedules.
  • Dealing with customer, councillor, and stakeholder enquiries.
  • Working with computer aided design and drafting software (AutoCAD).
  • 18 th Edition wiring regulations.

Responsibilities:

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, maintenance, and management of the existing illuminated street furniture and power distribution systems within ‘Area East’ Lancashire.
  • Design, Specification, and commissioning of road lighting and electrical supplies for a wide range of highway improvement projects, Section 278 improvement works, and Section 38 housing developments.
  • Design of single phase and 3-phase low voltage cable networks, distribution equipment, and associated switchgear.
  • Site specific / dynamic risk assessments and the application of risk mitigation to facilitate safer working.
  • Design and application of bespoke mitigation measures to control obtrusive light, light pollution, and reduce the impact of artificial lighting on wildlife and the environment.
  • Project and budget management for both Capital and Revenue works.
  • Creation of detailed AutoCAD 2D drawings and electrical schematics, including the application and control of external references (Xrefs) from various engineering disciplines.
  • Respond to lighting and electrical enquires within a multi-disciplinary service.
  • Production of technical reports, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Site surveys, meetings, safety assessments and marking out.
  • Dealing with customer, councillor, and stake holder enquires.
  • Mentoring and training of junior staff.
  • Interpretation and evaluation of electrical test data and an ability to technically resolve any identified issues.
