The University of Alberta Students’ Union is a not-for-profit organization committed to enriching the lives of students and the campus community. We operate a variety of on-campus businesses & services, as well as the Students’ Union Building - the centre of campus life.
We operate several licensed restaurant/pub establishments across campus, including Dewey’s (located in the North Power Plant on the UofA’s main North Campus) and Balmoral Lounge (located in the Saville Community Sports Centre on South Campus).
We’re looking for an energetic and motivated Assistant Operations Manager to assist our Operations Manager and the rest of the UASU’s leadership team in the overall financial and operational success of the businesses. Operations management; staff supervision; client experience - you’ll have the chance to be part of it all!
The UASU is a not-for-profit organization that exists to serve undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. Being a social enterprise, “value” from UASU business activities is measured through a variety of lenses including financial return, social good, and overall benefit to students.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum one year of management/supervisory experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Minimum one year of experience in a restaurant, bar or other hospitality venue
- Superior interpersonal, communication, writing and analytical skills
- Ability to lead teams in a positive, collaborative and effective manner
- Ability to work responsibly with little or no supervision
- Knowledge of budgeting and staffing procedures
- High level of creativity and motivation, and an embracer of innovation and change
- Ability to work with students, staff, administration and the general public with a dedication to providing excellent customer service
- Commitment to high professional and ethical standards, and to embracing a diverse workplace
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Background Check as a condition of employment
- Successful candidates will be required to maintain ProServe, ProTect, Standard First Aid and provincially approved food safety certifications as conditions of continued employment
OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Awareness of, and/or experience with, the University of Alberta, the UASU, or similar organizations
- Familiarity with Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Commission, Alberta Health Services and City of Edmonton regulations
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory driver’s abstract
- Experience with point-of-sale systems or business applications, as well as general technology skills
- Experience in managing a unionized staff environment
