JOB TITLE: Assistant Park Warden
TEAM: Conservation and Fisheries Directorate
REPORTS TO: Park Warden and Biosecurity Officer
JOB PURPOSE: Assist with the management of the National Park
DESIRABLE
- Experience of Conservation management on Ascension
- Experience of biological monitoring methods
- Knowledge of the flora and fauna of Ascension Island
- A degree in biological sciences or equivalent academic experience
- Experience of basic construction and building maintenance
- Experience of off road and 4x4 driving
- A brush cutter licence
- Qualification in the safe use of pesticides
- First aid qualification

Responsibilities:
MAIN DUTIES:
- Ensure that the designated trails in Green Mountain National Park are always passable and as safe as practicable. Follow a regular schedule for checking and clearing the paths.
- Maintain and enhance visitor facilities in the National Park.
- Organise and lead volunteers
- Clearance of invasive plants from important conservation sites.
- Assist with habitat restoration projects for native flora and fauna in the National Park
- Biosecurity surveillance monitoring and inspections
- Plan, lead or participate in public outreach events and engagement activity such as social media posts and press articles.
- Maintenance of tools and equipment
- Assist with the land crab biological monitoring programme
- To undertake any other related duties as requested by the Park Warden and Director of Conservation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Health and safety – to share in the corporate responsibility for the safety of staff and visitors to the office/work environment.
- Continuous development – responsible for your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Interaction with the Public: To interact with all members of the public, both the island community and visitors, in a courteous manner and to promote conservation efforts on Ascension where appropriate.
