DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

We are a friendly and dynamic office made up of seven individuals, working with and supporting the Executive Director, Director and Insurance SMT on wide-ranging issues impacting the prudential supervision of insurers and life in the Directorate.
This role would suit a hard-working individual who is keen to develop a career in supervision and raise their profile amongst senior management, both in Insurance and across the PRA / wider Bank. You will also engage with contacts at HM Treasury, other central banks and regulators, industry bodies, and C-suite executives. You will build relationships both internally and externally, and gain experience in producing directorate-wide communications.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • The Assistant PS will be expected to build a broad range of supervisory knowledge, analytical skills and understanding of the PRA’s approach and priorities.
  • You will support the Executive Director and Private Secretary across a broad range of issues. With time and with support from the Private Secretary, the Assistant PS will be expected to be able to give advice, delegate work and represent the Executive Director as appropriate.
  • This role would suit an hard-working individual who is keen to develop a career in supervision and raise their profile among senior management, both in Insurance and across the PRA / wider Bank.

Specific responsibilities will be discussed with the successful candidate but will involve:

  • Helping to run an active Private Office and deal with the wide range of issues that arise, supporting the Private Secretary and/or ED on key judgements;
  • Responsibility for individual pieces of work as delegated by the ED and/or Private Secretary, and co-ordinating delivery of key pieces of work across the Directorate;
  • Ensuring that key issues are raised to ED and/or cascaded to the wider Directorate in a clear and timely manner;
  • Coordinating and drafting briefings for the ED and other private offices;
  • Maintaining a clear understanding of the forward agenda and anticipating future briefings which will be required by the ED;
  • Maintaining clear and accurate records of meetings attended alongside the ED;
  • Maintaining a clear, up to date and easily accessible library of briefings which can be utilised at short notice by senior management
  • Preparing the ED for internal and external meetings and speaking events, contributing to the drafting of speaking remarks and presentations;
  • Coordinating the directorate’s input and interaction with key committees, including the Prudential Regulation Committee (PRC) ensuring high quality and consistency;
  • Communicating with a wide variety of colleagues, including the Governor’s office, DGPR office, other ED offices, COOs, and wider Bank staff to ensure that the Directorate is fully engaged with other parts of the Bank;
  • Helping to develop and implement the Insurance Directorate strategy and priorities;
  • Owning the Directorate’s internal communications strategy, coordinating a varied and inclusive range of items at weekly stand-ups and supporting the PS in preparing quarterly townhalls and other events hosted by the Directorate. Monitoring a very busy office inbox highlighting items to the ED / PS which may need attention

This role offers a salary of circa £40,000 - 45,000. In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
